We love to host our creative sessions in care homes and truly think that everyone, everywhere
deserves the chance to shine and become an artist. We offer sessions in everything from arts
and crafts, music and sing-along to dance, yoga plus seated dance and exercise. You are never
too old or too young to get involved.
This is a unique opportunity to broaden the entertainment calendar in your care home, creatively
and cost effectively! Join me in a peek around the stage curtain as I provide a bird’s eye view of
each of our sessions. Learn what happens as well as the benefits it delivers for participants, the
residents in your care home.
Music naturally brings a sense of connection and community, rekindling treasured memories.
We love to host live singing sessions based on either the seasons or key holidays during the
year, for example, Christmas, Easter, St Andrews Day and Halloween. Another great alternative
is to base it on the retro decades that people lived through and remember, for example, 1950s
or 1960s. Our facilitators are experts in performance, play and song. We will sing the residents’
favourite retro tunes and give them the opportunity to make requests. There’s nothing we love
more than participants clapping and joining in.
Our live singing sessions are sure to have everyone on their feet or if chair-bound, tapping their
feet and clapping along. The old saying, ‘music is medicine’ may literally be true – singing and
making music can boost the immune system and reduce anxiety. Most importantly, making
music is great fun!
Designing your own picture frame is a lovely craft that expresses individual interests and tastes.
Use paint, glitter and glue to frame a precious memory, a prized achievement or maybe even
another piece of art you made with Moving Waves! We love that our arts and crafts sessions
bring a sense of calm, fun conversations, the chance to share anecdotes and learn a bit more
about one another in a creative way. And, don’t forget that research shows that making art and
even viewing art causes the brain to continue to adapt, restructure and reshape.
Our yoga and seated exercises are always one of our most popular sessions. The chance to get
some movement into our daily routine is always a good idea, irrespective of age. In fact, as we
get older, it’s even more important to stay as agile and nimble as possible. Carefully designed to
match the participants’ ability, these sessions are great fun with our fantastic facilitators
encouraging movement and mindfulness. Remember, physical exercise has been shown to
prevent disease, lower the risk of falls, improve mental health and well-being, strengthen social
ties and improve cognitive function. What’s not to love?
In contrast, our storytelling sessions are designed to empower people to tell their personal
stories. Be transported to other worlds. Let your imagination run free. Experiences tales about
going into space, a day at the funfair or the house becoming a magical kingdom. Others may
want to share precious memories or recall a highlight in their lives. We love to create a poem or
response to these sessions to allow people to look back and remember their work!
Remember, research on the creative participatory arts shows that it can improve older adults'
quality of life and well-being from better cognitive function, memory and self-esteem to reduced
stress and increased social interaction. Our sessions are designed to improve the quality of life
of your residents.
This is just a glimpse at what we do at Moving Waves. It goes without saying that we are
available to travel to your care home anywhere in the London area to deliver our sessions. We
offer a discount for care homes that book a block of ten sessions across 12 months – you have
the freedom to choose whatever mix of sessions you like. That way, we believe we can offer
residents in your care home the most rounded experience possible. Alternatively, you may have
a few favourites and just want them – it’s entirely up to you.
