This November, Chloe, Jamie and I have been all over Buckinghamshire, facilitating workshops in everything from photography to storytelling to poetry. We have so enjoyed meeting all of you and listening to your thoughts, feelings, concerns and hopes surrounding the question: what does it mean to age well in Buckinghamshire?
We have spoken to people from Buckingham to Chesham to West Wycombe to Aylesbury, and your honesty has blown us away. You have taken photographs of the parts of living in Buckinghamshire that inspire you. You have penned poems that highlight your feelings and dreams. You have imagined a future where you can age well with street parties and the people you love surrounding you.
Now, we want to hear from all of you. We are opening submissions for your poems, stories, photographs, videos, drawings… anything which gets those creative juices flowing. We want to know what you think about ageing well in Buckinghamshire, and we want you to tell us about it in a creative way.
If you’re a little stuck for inspiration so far, perhaps some submissions from the participants of our workshops might inspire you.
Ken attended our open workshop in Aylesbury and penned this wonderful poem, speaking to his desires to be active, his love for his wife and his optimism that ‘the sun will still shine’. If you don’t consider yourself a wordsmith, perhaps Bob Marsh’s photograph might inspire you.
Bob brought this beautiful metal dog to the photography session with Jamie. The first thing Bob had ever welded spoke to Bob’s desire to keep busy and try new things. Something that many of you in Buckinghamshire expressed was important to ageing well.
Creativity is an integral part of ageing well. Now, it’s your turn to take that photograph, pen that poem, and tell that story. We want to hear from you. This project places your experiences at the heart of it. Be bold! Be brave! Be creative! There’s no right or wrong way to do it.
