Did you know that the famous Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix features its headquarters at 12 Grimmauld Place, a fictitious street in Islington? Douglas Adams also set The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in Islington, with characters inspired by people from the area.
The key takeaway is that Islington is a madly creative place! Now here’s another fun fact for your diaries – Islington is also home to the best kids’ dance and acting classes, courtesy of Moving Waves. And now is the perfect time to get involved. New year, new beginnings! We’re kicking off a new range of great weekday classes in Archway at the Whittington Community Centre, offering Street Dance, Musical Theatre, Ballet and Contemporary Dance classes for children aged 4 to 12. Places are limited so hurry – book your place with us today!
You might be wondering, “Why should I enrol my child?” I think it’s more a question of rephrasing the question and asking, “Why not?” For starters, think about your child gaining poise, confidence, physical fitness, better flexibility, balance and importantly emotional wellness?
I know that every parent will want all of that for their child – and more. Our dance and theatre experts at Moving Waves will provide a safe, supportive environment to let your child blossom to their full potential – and it’s at an incredibly reasonable price. What’s not to love?
There’s something about moving to the sound of music that seems to take all our cares away. Maybe it’s the rhythm of our favourite songs or perhaps it’s the challenge of mastering the more
complicated moves that brings us so much joy. Either way, one thing’s for sure: The physical, mental, and emotional health benefits of dancing are endless. Nowadays, so many children spend long periods of time indoors and sitting down, which is why dance is such a great form of exercise, allowing them to keep fit as well as burn off excess energy, while also stimulating their creativity and releasing endorphins.
Whether your kid aspires to strut the West End stage or is a shy and a shrinking violet, sign them up! Trust me, every child has natural rhythm. Every child knows how to dream, imagine and play. We just lose some of these natural abilities as we become older and more self-conscious. Now is the time to unleash their creativity and give them the chance to be bold and brave.
I don’t know about you but I was a painfully shy kid. It was only when I joined Dance and Musical Theatre that I discovered my niche, found my tribe and formed friendships that last to this day. That is why the testimonial from the parent below, who spoke about watching her daughter “grow in confidence in this supportive and nurturing environment” resonated with me so strongly.
That was my story too. In 2024, give your child the opportunity to spread their wings and gain confidence at our Performing Dance Academy. You won’t regret it. It was the makings of me.
Important as it is, we’re more than just a great place for children to learn, grow and create. We’re also proud to be part of the community in Archway. We love to hold special, celebratory events such as Christmas Parties, Summer Camps and Summer Shows. Of course, it’s not just about marking those big days – the children learn the importance of showing up and working week by week. Fun but challenging work and a sense of achievement makes those big days become even more special.
Your child will learn the importance of rehearsal. Dance requires group cooperation with everyone learning to work together effectively to achieve a common goal. Learning a new dance routine or song requires skills that focus the mind, body and voice. In short, lots of life lessons that will stand them in good stead in any future career.
And throughout, we’ll keep you as parents engaged and informed. We provide weekly newsletters as well as hosting exclusive Facebook and WhatsApp groups for parents so you will know how classes are progressing, every step of the way. Now for the best part – your chance to sign up here. Classes take place on the following days and times. Just take your pick!
- Tuesdays 4-5pm Street Dance (4-10yo)
- Wednesdays 5-6pm Musical Theatre (4-10yo)
- Thursdays 5-6pm Ballet (4-10yo)
- Thursdays 6-7pm Contemporary Dance (7-12yo)
